Staff Report & Agenda Item Details

The County must have a Salary Grievance Committee of 9 members. The Court is authorized to decide whether the committee is composed of a combination of certain elected officials and public members, or entirely composed of public members. Once the Court has decided on the composition of the Committee, public members should be selected “at a meeting of the court” from the names of the grand jurors who have served in the county during the preceding calendar year. The County Clerk is to place those names on slips of paper, and mix them in a container so that the County Judge can randomly select the number equal to the number of public members needed for the committee. In addition to the number of public members needed for the committee, the County Judge should also select sufficient alternates in the event that the initially selected members are unable to serve.
